I'm taking my car to be looked at tomorrow, but after one track day I've started noticing some weird squeaky/humming sound. It only seems to happen when I'm turning left and it's relative to the road speed i.e gets faster when the car is moving faster as well. Doesn't happen when turning right. I managed to take 2 clips of the sound. I also tried searching but couldn't really find an answer. Does anyone have any idea what might be causing this?

No replies... Well, the car has been in shop twice now. First they checked suspension - everything seemed fine. Then they checked all brakes - parking brake (handbrake) pad were chipped a bit so they sanded it down to be even but the sound is still there. Now the car sometimes squeakes even when coming to a stop. Anyway, I was just driving circles for 5 minutes and noticed that the sound goes completely away when I pull the handbrake up. As soon as I let it go it comes straight back and it seems the noise has gone much louder.

Any advice?

Sounds as if it could be a sticking handbrake caliper.

On mine the handbrake pads must have been made from butter, totally disintegrated and at only 15k miles, noise from the rear attracted my attention to the problem as I never use the handbrake!!!!!

I found 2 threads with similar issue:

It seems that the problem is in the parking brake caliper... I'm gonna ask the guys to take it off compeletely and see if it resolves it. Just got home from a small drive and the noise is driving me nuts because it sounds like im driving a complete piece of **** and it makes the sound even on regular left turns. Ugh...

Hi, did you manage to resolve the issue? Thanks.

So-and-so. For me the issue was in the right handbrake caliper. I had it disassembled a couple of times and put back together and pads changed as well. It was a miss or hit, but for now the sound seems to be gone - at least I haven't heard it for a while. I had a indie shop take a look at it and also the dealer and the last time the dealer messed around with it and it has stayed quiet. It wasn't a serious issue, just very annoying to hear the squeaking.

Totally appreciate the reply.

When you say "disassembled", I presume you removed the caliper from its mounting points and re-seat the pads. Or do you mean rebuilding the piston and boot as well?

Thanks again.

I think they took the whole caliper apart and put it back together.
