anyone ever had the tempertuare gauge stuck on 50 even after driving it quite hard - seems strange to me and all
Other temperature readings look ok … see pic

any help appreciated

Mine is digital, so no, but I’m sure your gauge is malfunctioning. Obviously your oil temp is far above 50 C with hard driving

I’ve long had a plan of how to determine when to get on the throttle hard if my temp gauge stopped working. I figure that 15 minutes of relaxed driving should be more than enough time to get up to temp

It should read dead-center when everything is warm - hopefully just a minor sensor or gauge issue here.
