Updated List of R8 Exhausts

I see there is a sticky on this subject, but it is out of date. The intent is just to inform what systems are available, V8 / V10, valves or no valves, construction material and members can then do their own research on compatibility with model year etc. Post has now been updated to include links to manufacturer's website, and links to some Youtube video clips. If you feel the chosen clip does not do you system justice, then send me a link to a better one and I'll update the post. I have deliberately not commented on noise level, power gain, quality and cost.

Let me know if there are any systems missing and I'll add them in. I think one or two companies may no longer be in business but their websites are still up and running so I've left them on for now, and some forum members have them fitted.

that's a great idea Steve! We should see if we can dig up some links to the youtube videos!

Thank you for your work on that list!!

Hi John, OK let me get started on the video clips; some of these exhaust systems are very rare e.g. the Seca. We'll see how it looks in a few days and I may need some help from other forum members. I'll try to keep it to revs / acceleration type videos, rather than the driving through London type ones.
Thanks again Steve!

It is a shame that the R8 is relatively rare..... I remember on the E92 M3 Forums, they had a get-together with 7 or 8 cars with different exhausts. They had some guy recording video as each car came out of a parking lot. They did drive-bys and idle as well. What was so cool about it was that even if the microphone was not perfectly accurate, there was a great point of comparison. You could easily hear which exhausts were higher-pitched, vs. lower...and so forth.

Some of these exhausts are super-rare too. I did not even know that MTM made an R8 exhaust!

The one I would add is the FVD Brombacher. They are high-end exhausts mostly known for their Porsche work. I just saw that they make some R8 exhausts as well!

Fantastic idea, and thanks for taking on the project of updating the list.

OK, updated with links to websites and some video clips.
Yes, you can have a titanium MTM system for just under 12,000 Euros. Get in now John while the Euro is weak!
I have never heard of Brombacher, sounds like a German beer; Krombacher I think. Anyway I've added it to the list.

Also added :-

- Borla
- Designtek
- Super Sports
haha!
WOW, $12K Euros!! I could almost buy a VW GTI for that much!

The Brombacher exhaust is here: (I have only heard the 997 exhaust and it was nice, but the prices were very high...but not "$12,000 Euros"!!)

Thanks again Steve!
I'm the owner of the Kline Innovation exhaust in that video.

I shot some GoPro footage so I'll upload it.

Thanks for that Captain! Some footage would be great (valves open and closed even better), there must be some high pitch sound from that inconel system on full throttle. :)

Sorry ****ty video. Haven't had time to upload more yet.
I have not heard of them but I will add to the list later - definitely the lowest priced system I've seen.

Wow, that's 31 manufacturers of R8 exhausts, not to mention the different configurations (materials, valved / non-valved) available.
Top Speed are local here for me in Dallas, I just picked one up this morning... I will give reviews, pics, and sound clips for you guys today during install.
Wow, I didn't realise there were SO many options.

Top work steve ;)
This is a useful list.

But which is the best option for the V8?
This is a useful list.

But which is the best option for the V8?
That depends on a number of factors of which many are personal preference :-

- Budget. More exotic materials such as titanium and inconel will cost you more. Valvetronic will also cost more.
- Sound - do you prefer a deeper rumble or high pitched scream? I'll be the first to admit that a youtube video clip really does not do any system justice, though when I play some through the home hifi system, they sound remarkably good. Do you have any limits on volume level - some of these systems are pretty close to open pipes.
- Functionality - do you need a valved system to reduce noise levels when required? Do you want to have the latest in valve control technology? Armytrix make a system where you can control the valves from a phone app!
- Location & availability - some of the systems listed are made in the US for example and may therefore be relatively expensive for UK buyers (and vice versa)
- Quality is also a factor though I'm not aware of any systems being regarded as low quality. You may be more comfortable buying a system which is well regarded by other forum members, and there are plenty of other threads with opinions.

Its a pity you can't try them out for a week like a bicycle seat!

Thx Steve for the list and work you put in. It is crazy just how many different manufactures of exhaust systems for the R8 there are...
List updated to include Nouvalari. Website
Thanks for your efforts Steve, really useful
