Updated List of R8 Exhausts

I see there is a sticky on this subject, but it is out of date. The intent is just to inform what systems are available, V8 / V10, valves or no valves, construction material and members can then do their own research on compatibility with model year etc. Post has now been updated to include links to manufacturer's website, and links to some Youtube video clips. If you feel the chosen clip does not do you system justice, then send me a link to a better one and I'll update the post. I have deliberately not commented on noise level, power gain, quality and cost.

Let me know if there are any systems missing and I'll add them in. I think one or two companies may no longer be in business but their websites are still up and running so I've left them on for now, and some forum members have them fitted.

Anyone installed an STM Tuned exhaust system on a GenII V10 or V10 Plus?

Bought a few goodies off their site & noticed they manufactured their own exhaust system but hadn't found any info on them outside their site.
All,
I really appreciate the time.it took to build this thread. Recently picked up a 2009 V8 manual and agree the stock exhaust has to go. I prefer a deeper sound that climbs, but dont necessarily love the "F-1" shriek that seems to be popular. My prefernce is more along the lines of An AM V8 Vantage with fuse 22 pulled to keep the valves open. 😉 What suggestions do you all have as I have listened to you tube clips until my ears bled... Cheers, Greg

A not commonly spoken about system is the Milltek. My car came with the Unresonated version, and I actually really like it. However, I’m like most, which prefers the F1 sound. So will be swapping it out hah

This system being a canister rather than X pipe gives more of the V8 rumble. The higher revs of this engine naturally has more of a scream, but around town it sounds like a finely tuned V8 like I think you’re after.

It’s not quiet by any means, but it’s manageable and has no drone at highway speeds. It’s not open valved system loud but not tame like those same systems closed. Nice balance, I really do like the sound, but isn’t the style I’m going for with this car.

My ISF had the long tube header gnarly muscle car V8 sound that made people second guess the Lexus badge. Going more exotic sound like I feel this car deserves is all.

Hey Greg,

We know EXACTLY what you're after with Fuse 22. Check out our R8 system, really wakes the V8 up while still giving you complete valve control in the event you need to quiet things down!

John, Thanks for the reply. I agree! From what I hear on that particular video, there is more harmonic low- end to your exhaust. It is definitely the front runner based on my research for the sound, quality and convenience, but I can't swing the price. :/ You and I actually had an email exchange last week. Appreciate you reaching out again! Cheers, Greg

From what I am hearing on my phone
Why do most exhaust system sound so similar to the Audi sport setup ?
Is it me that is feeling this or is there an actual
Improvement in the sound in real from brands like FI or quick silver

Thats a really great list. Dare I ask which are the better / more popular kits.
Evidently the sound will be subjective, but I am sure pricing and availability drives some decisions.
Any advice on which exhausts to avoid?
is it worth us doing a DB check on all these exhausts on cold start / idle and drive by on WOT and maybe 2-3k revs from inside the cabin at 70mph ? I think that would be useful information to anyone looking to purchase an exhaust

Unfortunately, it is actually pretty difficult to get accurate DB testing data unless, of course, all cars are in the same controlled location. In-car readings may be relatively accurate, but when it comes to exterior measurements, Room Acoustics play a significant role!

Totally agree that the data is beneficial, and would love to do what we can to make it happen regardless of the hurdles.

cheers for the reply John that would be amazing if we could! I guess realistically this could only happen if we were to organise a regional meet and we had a bunch of v8/v10's next to each other with difference exhaust setups.

Agreed! Happy to lend our HQ as a testing ground if the community is interested
Hi All,

Had my R8 V10 Plus Gen 1 for around 1 year and have spent a lot of time on YouTube listening to exhausts and I know nothing is going to compare to real-life... so my question isn't something I've seen asked as yet. The problem I'm seeing is there is or at least was a significant number of manufactures but being so late to the party, many of the exhausts are discontinued at this point. I don't suppose there would be enough interest to update the list to reflect what is still available for Gen 1?

As far as what I'm after, I don't know, I'm pretty certain I want muscle car vs F1 tone, but I know neither Capristo or Quicksilver which seem to be the "go to" on here.
Anyone have the valved Capristo exhaust installed on their gen 1 V8 R8? I'm curious if it's possible to cold start it with the valves closed, and how that sound level compares with stock. I crave a nice loud exhaust with valves open when I'm driving around, but need the cold start to be reasonable for my daily 6 am start up. I'm starting in an insulated garage, but neighbors are 10 feet away on both sides.

Pneumatic valves require a vacuum to close, so unfortunately cold starts will be open regardless of the manufacturer. Granted vacuum should only take a min or two.

Just recently had Capristo installed on my 1st Gen Facelift V8... as Fabspeed said though, it does start with the valves open. Last time I started it though, if I remember correctly, they only remained open for maybe a minute then closed. In my opinion, it is quite loud for that minute though, especially if you are sharing walls and it's 6am.

EDIT Just did a cold start a little bit ago when taking it out... it started with valves open, very loud grumble and within a few seconds it seemed to have closed the valves and was not too bad. In my opinion, it would depend on how light of sleepers your neighbors are. If it was me, it's loud enough it'd wake me up.
