After putting this off for way too long (and nearly crashing into a rock at 2 mph yesterday evening on ice...) I've decided to order winter tires.

The only ones I found up to now in the correct size (285/35R18 and 235/40R18) are Dunlop SP Winter Sport 3D XL MFS.

The German websites of Continental and Pirelli seem to show that they do not make the size in question.

Has anyone found other suppliers ?

Any other thoughts ?

Call Maplewood Audi (651-494-1400). They just put a set of winter tires on a new R8 that was delivered last week.

I was able to get the Pirelli's in the correct size per my the other thread. Numerous calls on my own couldn't turn up anything at the usual suppliers. I only heard rumors of the Dunlops and Continentals. Service Manager said he could only find 4 total tires in North America when I got mine. I was at the point of calling the company(s) directly. Might be worth a try. You could also go directly to your dealer or parts manager and ask.

The German Pirelli site doesn't show the sizes as existing unfortunately. Do you have 18", or 19" rims?

235/35R19 front & 295/35R19 Rear. I think there was only a listing for the rear tires and no indication that the fronts even existed on the US Pirelli site at the time. My dealer found both front and back in the "dealers" page of Tirerack.com. I could find no listing on the public sites.

Maplewood Audi replaced summer tire with Pirelli 295-30-19 in the rear and 235-35-19 in the front (both are the O.E. size) model Pirelli winter 240 on a new R8 in Minnesota last week. They also offer a tire/wheel combination that includes Dunlop 235-40-18 winter sport M3 for the front and 285-35-18 winter sport M3 in the rear.

I had a typo in my previous post. mngolfer1 is right. Pirelli Sottozero 240 Series II. Rear is 295/30R19. Front is 235/35R19. I had these placed on OEM rims. Have had these for about a month with no complaints. I have now been in significant snow and we expecting more this week.

Dealer was Cutrubus Audi of Layton Utah (801) 336-1111. Ask for Scott. He had significant knowledge of this issue for North America. It appears you are in Europe so I'm not sure if we are of much help.

I was at my friendly Audi dealer this morning and enquired.

Audi offers wheel and tire packages with Dunlop winter tires, so I am guessing that the Dunlop tires have been tested by Audi and found them to be satisfactory.

Unless the tire specialist of the village nearby comes up with another option (unlikely since the warehouse of his main supplier went up in flames with 30,000 tires a few weeks ago) I will order them on Monday.
