A few weeks back I cracked my windshield and promptly made an appointment for a windshield replacement.

The guys finally came this morning and I was really excited, my old windshield always had little specs and rock chips that were very noticeable when facing the sun at a certain angle. Anyways the installers show up and they just come reeking of weed, they must of smoked a monster blunt or something, even my wife inside the house was like why does it smell like weed in the house (mind you the installers were outside about 80ft away and I had the garage open).

That was my first red flag, but I think well these guys are "highly" 5 star rated and we're in the bay area, so I just shrug it off. Sometime later I come out and see that they had ripped a part of wrap where they inserted the knife tool to cut the windshield glue. I stopped them and had to compose myself and pointed out what they had done. They were like wooah it's ok the trim will cover it, and of course it didn't. Then they tried cover the gash with a piece of electric tape! I'm just like wtf are wrong with these stoners!!! I had to walk away because I pretty agitated at this point.

To make a long story short I called the owner and he we worked out a $1000 payment to me, even tho I would rather not go through this at all, and didn't want to get my blood pressure up...

So either ways the wrap comes off in a few months, and it is what it is. I'm just here to vent I guess because only you guys would understand...

What would you have done, if anything all all?

Sorry for your experience, BUT since you asked, I would have run the "stoners" off of my property! Never would I let them with a zip code of my R8!

Smoked an even bigger blunt so I didn't care about anything.

Actually, I don't smoke as I just find it makes people too stupid and I don't want to be stupid. Those that want to should do it as much as they want. I just don't want them around or working for me. I'm convinced all this weed legalization is hurting productivity far more than the taxes are helping. It's a net negative for our country. That's just my humble opinion and I respect those that disagree.

$1,000 probably went off your insurance at no cost to the windshield company. At least you have a third off the cost of your next wrap.

I think weed works different on everyone. Take Joe Rogan for example. He claims it makes him more relaxed, focused and creative.

Honestly most people who I see smoke all day are restaurant workers/baristas etc. I think doing any repair service related job when stoned is pretty tough, and hinders concentration. As for Joe he sits and talks for a living so being high would help bring out some creativity and different perspectives.

Cali has hone bonkers with how much people smoke, I recently saw a car completely hotboxed with smoke coming out, and there was a cop right next to him that didn't do anything. I would think that's a dui of some sort at least. I think if your gonna drive stoned at least keep it on the dl.

I have another serious question for the OP and the others that would really be mad at this. I'm in a third world country right now which is probably impacting my thinking as ive been around hungry children today, but im curios about why this makes you so mad or why the other guy would run them off his property.

I got a door ding on my car a few weeks ago. I'm not sure of it happened at a hotel parking lot or some stop I made but it definitely has a little ding. I was not at all upset about it and just went immediately to putting a budget in my head for cost and time to fix it. I'm honestly not upset at all. When I got a milkshake thrown on my car a while back I was upset for a few minutes but that's it.

I'm genuinely curious why this made you so mad? What goes through your head? Is it that it's a big cost to fix? Or you feel they robbed you somehow? I just can't see myself getting upset at this and am always trying to understand when little things bother people a lot. And do you often get mad at stuff? I am really not at all asking with any judgement as perhaos I should get more mad sometimes and I'm not saying I'm right.

I'm short, what exactly were you mad at and how long will you be mad?

perspective is a very complicated issue.

One day people are mad at the weather...the next their loved one has cancer...and everything changes in a heartbeat.

Many of us are extremely spoiled and it takes extreme exposure to remind us how good everything really is.

i mean i'm trying to understand the thought process that even led to that idea... was the electrical tape even similar in color to the wrap??
My wrap is dark gray, and the tape was black lol... close but not close enough. I guess the stoner thought process "hey man put a piece of tape over it, cool man good idea!"

IMO...if someone shows up to perform any type of work on your property...cars, home repair, landscaping, etc.
& they are obviously high, intoxicated, etc.
Why would you not run them off the property & call the business owner...or is this the new norm?
I believe it's the new norm for the bay area and Los Angeles. Businesses and owners are understaffed and overworked themselves. I directly service businesses and this is what I hear daily. Can't really fire people these days for being high, being late, calling in sick when hungover or hormonal from growing a vagina, we have to be understanding about everything.

Judd. I was upset for a good 30 minutes still after they left, and wasnt happy when they were here, I held back talking to them or getting really upset because they needed to finish the job, and having an angry asian guy looking over their shoulder wouldn't of made their install any more smooth.

I did call the owner of the company (a 5 star progressive authorized installer) and gave him a earful but without being disrespectful. He sounded sincere about his apologies and said to he would do anything to make it right, so at that point I didnt get any more upset, there was no one to fight with, and they weren't disputing that they had [email protected]#ed up.

Wow, that sounds like a very healthy reaction. I was worried yoy were gonna have a week of ruined days being mad. It fascinates me how people deal with situations. You got an extra grand over what I would have gotten and you deserved it. Well played. Now let's all pass around that blunt and show up late to work tomorrow and do the minimum nit to get fired. Worst case we chuck some electrical tape on the error (this was hilarious mainly because it was those guys smartest thinking).

Not advocating or dis-advocating, but years ago we used a lawn service that my wife and I called "The Stoners". The owner of the company was an avid snowboarder, if that tells you anything. The guys that did our yard were two completely mellow dudes that would get baked all day and mow lawns. They were the best service we ever had. Unfortunately for us, they developed their commercial business and dropped us as a residential customer. As far as I know, they still are snowboarding, smoking dope and mowing lawns.

Sorry for the rant, but here goes.
What an employee does on their time...is their business.
On company time...bad employees reflect negatively on a business & for an owner...ultimately on them.
As a customer, I certainly don't want someone who is baked, intoxicated, etc. working on my property or vehicles.

While I certainly understand the issues regarding trying to hire & keep competent help.
Tolerating or not laying down the law is "enabling" employees...which just promotes the bad behavior.
Regardless of whether it's "normal" in CA...it's a sad commentary, on our country.
