I'll answer one of your questions should you take the plunge @JDaniel. There is a specific OEM R8 winter wheel and tire set made should you find a car. See here: Official Audi R8 18" Winter Wheels and Tire Set for... A buddy of mine with a 2012 gated takes his in the snow (NYC) sometimes and has never had a problem. I wish you well and good luck!
