The R8 has been on my list for a couple years. About to sell my Aston Martin and make the move. I'd rather have the 6 speed, but that seems to be too hard to come by with the V10. Currently planning to get an earlier V10 (maybe 2011 or 2012) and maybe do the manual conversion later on. 1st question: at what price would you go to a V8 with the manual? 2nd question: what concerns would you have with buying one with 60k - 70k miles? Not saying I am looking to do that, but there's options. 3rd question: any particular years or issues to look out for or stay away from? Thank you for any help.

Pic for attention

Should you need mag rides replacements - we offer a bargain in comparison to OEM, which appears to be out of stock at Audi anyway. Our remanufactured OEM Delphi shocks offer years of great ride quality at fraction of the cost.

Prices of R8s fluctuate, but generally a gated V8 can go anywhere from $55k to over $100k, depending on miles, history and condition. Manual V10s will typically yield $20k-30k over gated V8s, depending on the same factors.

ok, will summarize my research so far (still sorta new to it) but in the end you gotta do some reading/research and test drives:
  • 2012 saw facelift so that is a big deal IMO
  • 08-09 saw some 'limited' issues with front frame cracking
  • 2015 is last year V8 and last year of manual
  • price $$$
    • where are you located?
  • US - currently about 20% premium for gated manuals in 2014/2015
  • i just saw a 2014 60K mile, 1owner, with a fair of amount of optoins sell from a dealership in florida (asking prices was 73K)
    • but they didn't even detail it and were a little iffy on the PPI
  • I think these cars get driven hard so mileage is a something to be mindful of IMO
..for starters, hope that helps.

not looking to create a fued or anything here, but I have looked thoroughly into the conversion, spoken to the shops that offer it, and spoken to several people who have had it done. In general, I would agree that buying a car with plans to convert a major component is not a cost effective or reliable idea (I have an H1 Hummer with the Duramax swap that is finally completed by many years in the making). However, from what I've found with the R8, it's a very reasonable idea. The vehicle cost is notably less up front, the number of vehicles available is much higher (especially with the combo I'm wanting), the odds of finding one near by is much higher, and I'll have the chance to try the r tronic for a bit to actually see what I think. Personally, I love buying cars too much to be able to afford over paying for them, lol.

Thanks for the info! I'd be aiming for a V10, 2011 - 12 with 60k miles or less. Sounds like I'm probably on the right track.
I've started thinking about the V10's; test drove one in Tampa that someone tried to sell on here but had not bites. Very suprising as it was a nice car...
