It takes a bit of learning but it's not just a straight up gun it and go for it thing. The rear end can definitely break loose in when it shifts to 2nd and 3rd but you know it's coming. You learn the car taking traction control off took me a couple of weeks but it was fun relearning the car.

 

My tuned 911 with TC off was a frothing lunatic. The R8 is much more balanced but has less mechanical rear grip mid and late apex. Losing traction on the R8 feels progressive and quattro steps in, but once you exceeded the grip on the 911 you better be committed because if you backed off too hard it would try to kill you. What I need to get used to is the maniacal speed this car accumulates when you bury the gas pedal, the speedo just keeps warping and you have to let go to see how fast your actually going.

 

The only time I get scared is when I get ****ing teenager boys driving inches behind me to take pictures of my R8. Or when I have a ****ing teenager girl putting make up or texting while driving and changing lanes fast.

Glad you're enjoying it and most of us here do but you haven't experienced fast if you think a Gen 1 R8 V10 is fast (based on your thumbnail). Speed is a relative term. Before we sold our GT-R my wife would say I have no problems flooring the R8 (2017 V10 Plus mind you) but I still have some trepidation every time I lay into the throttle in the GT-R.

Even with AWD our GT-R was a "slow" one when we owned it. I've been in some downright scary GT-Rs with insane power outputs. I've also owned a RWD Corvette with supercharger and meth injection. That would rip any R8 a new one in a straight line. 6 speed manual would light the tires at 75 MPH on street tires.

 

What was the 1/4 on the gt-r? Sounds like u probably lost 2 seconds spinning tires and still broke 9’s Agree rwd is probably twice as terrifying

 

I said above our GT-R was a "slow" one. It was a fast car but a slow GT-R (a.k.a. FBO E85 and not a big build). Ran a 10.2 @ 136.

 

The only thing that scares me is other motorists who have low level driving abilities.

 

I get a little bit scared when entering a parking lot and see how narrow the entrance is. I never get scared on the road but some may get scared of me Sorry for posting in the 2nd generation discussion

This will be my second high performance car. I have a 2016 Shelby GT350 that has definitely reminded me a couple of times that I need to respect it. I think with any car you have to remember to respect it, but you also just need to treat it like an extension of you.

I've taken the Shelby to the track, and it's n absolute thrill to see how much the car is capable of. Realistically, though, I'm the limiting factor. I feel like we do this for the thrill, and on the roads we'll definitely open it up a bit, but I certainly come back down after a brief stint. I don't want to crash my baby! And you definitely can't tell what stupid thing others out there are going to do.

 

If you don't feel a little "nervous" before going for a drive in your car, your car is boring so sell it and buy something that makes you "nervous".

 

The R8 is not a hyper car so it will never scare me to drive it, what scares me is this.

 

In all honesty I was only really scared of the minivan that was trying to keep up with me going 110 on the tollway this afternoon. I can deal with the tail breaking loose a bit here and there but there's no way your Honda minivan was built to maintain that speed......

 

Definitely watch out for “the crazies”. Its a two way street

I agree with the poor driving skills of others. What is scarier is when these people, with their poor driving skills, get on the road and think they can use their cell phones and eat a bucket of chicken while driving.

I kid you not. I had a driver in front of me, that I passed, and she had her KFC bucket on her lap and was eating it and trying to drive.

You just can't make this sh% up.

 

Welcome to uneducated obese America, sad reality. When I see someone texting while driving I really want to slap them in the face and ask them WTF are you doing? You can go to jail and lose your drivers licence and the same law should be applied to driving and texting.
