Maintenance is determined by the manufacturer, not the dealer. It's not only based on time, not mileage.

Every dealer, franchise, or independent shop (I worked at one for 7+ years) is going to talk to you about vehicle maintenance. Oil changes don't generate profit (or sometimes not at all),

It's completely up to you whether you do maintenance or pay for the yearly plan. Which either way, I personally am of the opinion that paying for maintenance now can save alot of money down the road.

 

I went in for a oil change today and was told that my maintenance program expired and that I needed to do the 60K service. Last year when I had my oil changed they did the 50K service. The R8 has 24K miles on it.

Question is is there such a thing as a simple oil change with Audi or do they always force the service each year? I was told I can buy maintenance until my 70K service for $1400 or pay $2600 for the 60K service.

Totally nuts so I wanted to see if this is really normal or just the dealer jacking me around.

I WENT TO MY DEALER FOR A SIMPLE OIL CHANGE ALSO AND WAS TOLD THE DAME EXACT THING. MIND YOU THE GM IS MY BEST FRIEND SO THEY WOULD NEVER DICK ME AROUND. THERE IS NO SIMPLE OIL CHANGE. IT IS INCLUDED ALONG WITH EACH SERVICE INTERVAL. EVERY 10k or so miles or every year. Once you reach the 60k service I believe that’s it. I too have the “Audi Care” maintenance program (3 or 4 years w 2 years left I believe).

the 60k service is the big one. They change all the fluids everywhere from what I remember. Maybe even a tune-up but not exactly sure.

my car has 11k miles and is a 2017. And last time I went for the oil change a few months ago they said I need to complete the rest of the service included with that specific one. So I too will be doing the 60k service bc the car is almost 6 years old. The Audi Care program is not designed very well. It would suit normal daily Audi’s that get driven a lot. For our cars we must do these scheduled services every year and WASTE THEM JUST BC OF THE AGE OF THE CAR. AND NOT THE ACTUAL MILEAGE. So parts, fluids, procedural services Are done on the car when not even needed. This we waste this service and CANNOT SAVE THE 60k SERVICE FOR WHEN IT REALLY NEEDED (WHEN CAR IS APPROACHING 60k mi!!!)

If you want just an oil change then go get it done privately. And try and prolong the included Audi Care maintenance interval services each for an extra year. So 2 years instead of 1 which is possible.

ALSO BECOME FRIENDLY W THE SHOP FOREMAN WHO USUALLY IS THE R8 certified tech. HE CAN HOOK YOU UP SINCE HE CONTROLS THE SERVICE TICKET AND ENTERS INTO THEIR SOFTWARE SYSTEM

 

Bottom line the dealer does what you tell them to do!
You can listen to their recommendation and consider warranty, resale etc but if you want just an oil change then get just an oil change.

 

they won’t do it if you have Audi care. They have to do the other parts of the scheduled service or they cannot enter it via Audi care reimbursement

Is there a printed schedule I can look at that states when and what they will do for each service interval?
I have a 2017 V10 plus that I got last August. It currently has about 13k miles on it. The car says I’m due for an oil change in 20 days. If I’m reading this post right, Audi is going to try and talk me into additional service that I may not need, outside of an oil change?
Seems kinda sketchy to me.
