OP, seems like you have the answers to your own questions…so, just pull the trigger on the one that looks the best to you and keep us all posted here so we can hopefully all learn something along the way.

And respect the fellow 350R / R8 owner…it’s an incredible machine and amazing complement to the R8…equally as thrilling, but radically different experience. Enjoy!

You seem to be quite the expert on what is a scam and rip off for costs. I'm guessing you must have hands on experience in custom fabrication and welding and have engineered product from the ground up and done so in a manner to recover your costs and keep your guys working and keep the lights on. Do tell. Curious to know about your background.

If you're wondering why all the responses on beware of Chinese sourced parts, I'd say it's because we've watched quite a few roll through here over the years with their "just as good" mag rides, or stereo head units, or whatever, and well, yeah, they've worked out so well for many that they get trashed, and the person was back to ground zero and starting over, but sure, some have been happy.

And sound of the exhaust is a taste thing, and some have posted back after a period that the cheap exhaust had annoying resonance or just tiresome qualities to it so that even though it seemed good at first, they were trashing it a year later.

If you decide you want something that's a good balance of price and engineering from a well established company with a good reputation, here's a Topgear system that may fit the bill. I'm not 100% it's the right one for your car. Honestly too busy to put too much effort into this, especially since you don't really want to hear what people with experience have to say, even though your post starts off asking the question:

And as mentioned early on, Avior builds some nice systems. They can be a bit backed up and slow to respond, but Alex seems to be a good fellow and did some tweaks for me on the system I got from him. His prices are pretty darn good, he has things on sale right now, and he's down in Texas, so you're supporting our own guys, if you care about that sort of thing:

What he wants to hear is that Chinese quality is amazing and that anyone who bought a premium exhaust is an idiot.

This is an enthusiast forum. It won’t happen. People here actually love their cars.

If you can do a “premium” “reputable” exhaust brand catback valves for 4000$ or less I’m open to it

And I was able to sell my Capristo for what I paid for it a year later. I bought it from that scammer @R8-Stuff . Valved, quality brand exhaust for $3500

I appreciate the offer, I’ve gotta get something with valves. I’m trying to keep a good relationship with my neighbors. Thank you though

3500$ is a good price. I’d be a buyer at 3500. But I don’t see that anywhere. I see 6,000$ +
The Topgear exhaust I linked is $3213.32. That fits your target price. I'm pretty sure I've seen them do some good shipping deals to the U.S. too. Definitely worth checking into. They are a well respected brand.

I'll chip in $100 for the Alibaba ones if you go that route. Im genuinely curious if they would work.

It's a good group of helpful people on here. Try to come across a bit friendlier and I think you will get more out of the site.

Any other mods planned for your car?

Lol. Appreciate the 100$. I’m strongly considering going that route

I’m also open to going quicksilver or some reputable brand if I can get it to my door for less than 4,000

I looked really hard at a Rev9 system because of the price point, and I missed a valved titanium one on Amazon for a nutty low price. It was around $1000. At that price, and valved and titanium, I sometimes really wonder. One of the gotchas on something like this is quality control. It'll be something crazy like a flange out of alignment by a 1/16th, and now you're really torquing something to get it to line up. I ended up going with a non-valved one from Avior, and Alex had it ceramic coated for me at a really good price. The build quality is top notch, and it has a nice sound. So just research, see if you can find some clips on YouTube for how it sounds etc., and you ought to be able to find something that suites you. Do keep us updated on how it all shakes out. It's always good to know what does and doesn't work for folks. Also, do a really thorough search on this site - use Google to do the search versus the site's own search. I find that often returns better results. There have been some lengthy threads on Rev 9 and other exhausts. If I did go for a Chinese one, that might be what I would hone in on. That brand has been around awhile and some people do like them, but then I've also seen posts where they wore thin on folks. The different materials will have different acoustic qualities to them, so make sure that's part of what you look for as you read through posts. And take your time, and get the right one for you!

There you go. I said it. It doesn't make it right for the aftermarket parts we've been seeing in the fleaBay. But, hey, someone had to say it.

However...

Last week I was in Europe and rented a BYD SUV. That thing feels and drives like a Merc. Tesla feels like a toy car, compared to BYD.

I’m looking at the top gear exhaust system pretty hard now. Seems priced more competitively than others. Just trying to get in contact with someone over there

If I hadn't gone with the Avior, this is probably the direction I would have taken. People really like their sound with the valves open and also say when you want quiet, the closed position is nice too.

I dont know why this is in italics.

I've been saying it for years, there is china quality that is equal or better to USA Japan and Europe made. In the construction industry we are starting to see machines at half the cost show up and they are lasting and good quality. No need anymore for Japanese motors. The chinese just stole all the IP and now make them. Now they are figuring out how to make machines like backhoes, scissor lifts and cranes. BYD blowing tesla out of the water in quality and price.

But risks remain of getting scammed.

I have valved Top Gear on my Gen 1.5 V8 and it sounds amazing. I have previously posted some clips if you search.

Just here to say that I think the OP is spot on - the 10x markups on name brand exhausts are unjustified and a pure scam. No different than women's Hermes purse vs. a regular everyday brand, just because it's outrageously more expensive doesn't mean is performs outrageously better.

I've had my Rev9 Chinese exhaust for several years now, the build quality was excellent and the sound was as expected. More importantly, I LOVE the fact that I saved tons of money to spend on other mods that are worth it.
