I have a US 18 RWS and used VCDS to disable the Side Marker Lights as I had them painted body color. Huge thanks to the staff over at Ross-Tech and the BAR8 group chat for helping me get this working correctly.

You'll need VCDS with a Ross-Tech Hex-V2 Cable or HEX-NET Interface.

The lights are controlled by the BCM1 (#9) and BCM2 (#46) modules in the car.

Front Side Markers
  1. Make sure you've got the interface hooked up to the car, the ignition is on and you're plugged into the USB port on your laptop.
  2. Open VCDS and choose "Select Control Module"
  3. Choose "09-Cent. Elect."
  4. Choose "Security Access - 16"
  5. Enter code 20113 and hit "Do It!"
  6. Choose "Coding - 07"
  7. Next to "New Coding:" hit the "Long Coding Helper" button
  8. Use the up arrow key on your keyboard to go up to channel 10.
  9. You should see "Bit 3 Side Marker Lights (North American Region) installed" and it should currently be checked.
  10. Uncheck Bit 3 and hit Exit.
  11. You'll see a new code in the New Code area, you can now hit the "Do It!" button.
  12. Cycle the ignition and check to see that the front SML are now off.

Rear Side Markers
  1. Make sure you've got the interface hooked up to the car, the ignition is on and you're plugged into the USB port on your laptop.
  2. Open VCDS and choose "Select Control Module"
  3. Choose "46-Central Conv."
  4. Choose "Security Access - 16"
  5. Enter code 16017 and hit "Do It!"
  6. Choose "Adaptation - 10"
  7. Enter Channel 209, hit "Read" (it should show 51201)
  8. Enter 12 as the new value
  9. Hit "Test", then hit "Save"
  10. Enter Channel 210, hit "Read" (it should show 51233)
  11. Enter 44 as the new value
  12. Hit "Test", then hit "Save"
  13. Hit "Done, Go Back"
  14. Cycle the ignition and check to see that the rear SML are now off.
You'll know if you've screwed up the rears if your car throws a light warning. If you do have a warning pop up, you can reset the channel values to their defaults listed above and it'll clear the warning.

Hey, thanks for posting this. At some point, I was trying to figure out how to do this myself as I had my left front side marker acting wonky. At initial start-up, it wouldn't light and I'd get a fault message. After a few miles though, and after cycling the headlights, they'd function normally. As the LEDs are functional, the best I can surmise is that they're voltage-sensitive and a nominal 12v sometimes doesn't cause the one in question to light. Apparently, this is a common enough issue where Audi issued a TSB and a software fix that inhibits the fault message.

After the update, I still have the same LED behavior but no fault message to go along with it.

Long story short, I was trying to figure out how to disable them both prior to the software update, but could never figure that out. I was gonna wrap them in vinyl as I found a nearly perfect match for Ara Blue Crystal, but just never got around to doing it.

I was able to successfully code out the rear lights but when doing the front side markers when I click the long coder helper button I get an error message that basically says there isn’t a helper for my ECU. Any ideas?

I figured out the solution to code out the front side market lights for anyone like me that can’t get the long coding helper to work.

Use the arrow keys to go to channel 10 aka byte 10 and adjust this from the OEM setting of 48 to 40.
