Hi,
I have one of the first R8 V8's from 2007. I'm in the process of replacing the ball joints in the rear lower control arms. I have ordered new ball joints from VPS and will try to remove the old ones this weekend.
What puzzles me is that I found that I have installed ball joints with the larger 18mm taper but with the M12 thread. VPS have also a version with 16mm taper and M12. In the information I found from Audi the difference can be seen on the thread for the nut. Later version have a M14 thread instead and a 18mm taper(?).
What I find strange is that I have 18mm taper and the M12 thread for the nut in what seems to be the original delivery from Audi.
Can I draw the conclusion from the taper size that I then have the later bearing housing which is compatible with new control arms from Audi?
I'm asking if I fail to remove the ball joint from the control arm. Then I have the possibility to buy a complete new (upgraded) control arm from Audi without having to change it all.

Thanks, Fredrik
