Let me be candid. This car is highly addictive and the way it goes fast is the reason. After owning 4 Corvettes, 3 Vipers, a ZL-1, Hot Rod 66 Mustang 302, etc I finally saw what I used to look like when I got out of one of those cars after wringing it's neck. I recently had the owner of a C7 Z06 demand to race me, so of course I obliged. After reaching 120 I started to put great distance from him as his image got smaller in the rear view. I looked down at the dash and saw it was at 177mph. I looked back up at the road and said to myself "oh my god, this car is sublime at high speed". It was so quiet and smooth I knew it would easily go 200.. After we were done I got out of my car and walked over to my friend who was exiting his Vet. He was drenched with sweat and still trembling from the adrenaline rush, he was rambling about how awesome that just was. I however was as calm as a pond on a windless day. I knew instantly that I have been mistaken about my Vets and Vipers. It dawned on me that you could buy 2 Z06's and one Z51 for the cost of my R8, and the reason becomes very apparent at high speeds. The car is worth every penny of the over 200k cost. As a side note we both were shocked to see that the Z06 had been "lifted" by the high speed run. It looked like it was on a rack, the suspension was lifted like 4". Apparently the MAG ride was malfunctioning and it looked pretty dangerous lifted that high up. Here is the thing...once you have an R8 you realize you could never go back. My wife's Z51 feels like junk when I drive it now. I can't wait (starting next year) to see the streets of America filled from small town to big cities with C8's. While you will almost never see an R8. The thing is you could have 3 wanna B supercar C8's or one Audi R8. LOL. Or you could have a C8 and a small house! For the cost of one R8. As I pull the R8 into the garage and shut it down my thoughts are that I can't wait until I take her out again, my $207,000 supermodel.
