Here's a very brief news item: a car "..you can't get"

ALSO...
RXBG => "funny that I haven't been here for a while and decided to come post on this very topic today and this thread was up first. based on my latest info and from a very dependable source the latest is that the new R8 is definitely going in a different design direction.

the V10 engine and DSG will be carryover, but with refined cylinder cut off integration

the base engine that will be on offer is up in the air for various reasons

the BIG news is that it is going to have a new four wheel steering system. and it will NOT be on offer for the new gallardo.

it is also going to be LIGHT. i wasn't told how light but told at least 400 lbs lighter (we will get an idea of how far audi has come with cf composites when the 2015 "GT" comes out as the last variant of the current gen)

something may be up with the awd system. my source did not want to tell me anything about that, which makes me think that the viscous differential system may be out and something completely new in. something probably completely new that audi is working on.

the exterior design is going to be dramatic and even more exciting than the original when it came out.

the end line i got is that the higher ups at audi want to go balls to the wall with this one. they want to make it as usable as the current gen but with the dynamics to best the MP4-12C and italia. i personally don't know where that leaves the gallardo."

Can you add anything to this??

only thing I can add is that in Frankfurt this fall they are going to debut the new Gallardo (it'll have a whole new name) but will be numerically called the LP-600 afaik. this will essentially be the new R8 (though the new R8 will continue to be differentiated from its lambo brother by more every day usability and slightly less power but with the addition of four wheel steering that so far continues to be in the cards). i'd guess the new R8 spec- apart from looking spectacular- will be: DSG, 570-580 hp, and weigh less than 3300 lbs.

Agreed. Porsche has thrown the gauntlet down on this. I would assume that it's pure physics that a non-4WS car won't be able to perform the same as or outperform a 4WS car all other things being equal.

I also agree that R8 will remain the GT of the bunch but there's no reason Audi can't and won't introduce an R8 GT3 to both capitalize off their recent racing success AND offer enthusiasts a harder-core higher-performing variant.
