Hey Guys, just learning this new toy. Curious if you must paddle shift when using launch control, or if you can do it in automatic?

Using the following instructions, when I take off traction control it puts it in manual mode.

1. Put car in Dynamic mode
2. Put in sport
3. turn off stability
4. Press and hold your foot on brake
5. Press button on side of the gear lever (top)
6. Pressing accelerator whilst keeping the brake pressed, notice the car does not move.
7. Press accelerator till launch control activated comes up on screen.

Might you say this step is... superfluous? Sorry, couldn't resist! :)

I have noticed in this car you really have to press the brake down rather firmly. A flimsy press of it the car will not engage launch control. Just an FYI...

What year car are we talking about???

What button????

Regardless Id say be very careful. Mine is a 2009 v8 and the few times Ive tried this it was quite violent. Ive had a few stock dodge vipers of various years that could hit 0-60 in the 3.8-4.0 range...AND I SWEAR THE V8 R8 MUST DO IT IN 3.9 OR 4.0 or faster???? Id imagine the v10 is in the mid to low 3 second range????

The reason I say be careful is because the way I had my best results was by turning off traction control and putting her in sport mode. We are used to our R8s being very docile beaste. With awd and smooth driving mannerisms its just a very easy car to drive fast around curves or accellerate at will.

BUT.....the 10 or so times Ive used launch control...its extremely brutal and violent accelleration. The car does not feel awd at all while using launch control. Ive had my car violently burn rubber even at 30 mph and step from left to right under launch control accelleration. Again I turn traction control off because it was wayyyyyyy slower with traction control and did that slow crawl accelleration from a dead stop that many have commented on. Turning off traction control made it a fast direct hit off the line.

Out of the 10 or so times Ive tried it..3 of them were holy ****e this is crazy moments and 2 of them I was scared and thought I was wrong to have done it on public roads (a dead stop merging onto the freeway) one of them I almost lost control and wrecked.

Im not some ex Pcar boxster owner. Ive owned 10 second cars that could hit 60 mph in the high 2s or low 3s. Im just saying the R8 accelleration while using launch control is one of the few times you will be reminded that you are in a serious car and you REALLY gotta be careful. Its just that violent

Go try a modded GT-R...makes the R8 feel graceful off the line with launch control.

R8 = gentle quick ramp up of power (and I'm referring to a '17 V10+)
GT-R = sledge hammer to the chest

I own both trust me the R8 launches hard but there are others that can rip it out of the hole harder. Eventually I'm going to line both toys up and give them a go. I'll post up the video when we do. Both are stupid fast but 610hp/413tq R8 vs a TT V6 with significantly more torque it's physics at work.

I love the mask he's wearing for the video haha!!!

Here's rolling launch in our GT-R. I was on R888 tires to dead hook. Currently I'll spin with the tires I have on car.

Thats me in the mask. With lots of practice I got the car to hit 60 in 3.2 seconds. Rwd and manual is hard. 555 rwhp and 3300 pounds and thats the best I could do in that car.

Gtrs are insane low end. Ive got lots of vids racing gtrs from stock to 900 hp sp engineering examples.

Even in stock form they are very impressive low end wise.

YOUR CAR LOOKED LIKE IT TOOK LESS THAN 2 SECONDS TO GO FROM 20ish TO 60 MPH!!!! Brutal accelleration

The thing with the v8 r8 is that a 12.6 at 113 mph just dosent seem or feel fast these days..people just putt along in them for the most part.

So when they try launch control they may be thinking...no big deal..I got this. But it really transforms the car. A 35xx pound car with 350 awhp hitting 60 mph around 4 seconds can really catch some people by surprise.

Im sure the v10 owners are used to having an 11.8 at 122 mph car all the time and they respect its power...

But that v8....its easy to get caught and disrespect it because it never feels that fast untill launch control is used.

Oh I know RWD isn't easy with power.

I used to own two Corvettes both manual. One was about on par with the R8 V8 (2015 Z51 manual 460hp). My other the wife coined "the coffin." All blacked out with a blower on it. Over 650RWHP and was a doozy to keep control. It was a highway monster. Never again will I do that kind of power on the street without AWD. Drag strip or track car sure I'll do RWD with that power but not on a public road. It's ridiculous...

Here's my old "coffin"...2010 boosted LS3.

Probably around there. Motor Trend did a 10.6 @ 130 in the V10+ with a 2.6 second 0-60. I plan on eventually pitting our GT-R against our R8. Currently the GT-R is off the R888 tire and on MPSS so it does struggle a bit from a dig. Slow roll in 1st it dead hooks just not on the launch currently.

This is my viper vs a sc z06....its black like your coffin lol.

This z06 was laying the smack down on all of us back in the day...3250 pounds and over 600 rwhp

Sweet videos! Minus the wing yeah that looks like my old coffin....not to stray too far off topic but this was the coffin with our C7.

had a vette as well. Stock was 299 rwhp and did 60 mph on 4.9 seconds. Modded was 420 rwhp and hit 60 mph in 3.9 seconds.

Back in the early 2000s 4.9 stock was pretty good lol...3.9 was supercar territory...Crazy how far weve come. Its funny because many say that 0-60 dosent matter anymore. I call BS...its the only thing I can have fun doing legally...

My h/c bolt ons and tune c5
