So dude from SOL youtube got some remap/tune and new downpipes put on his AMG GTS. Result is awesome crazy pops and crackles...like the Huracan/new R8.

Is this possible on our cars? My Armytrix gets a few good sounding low pops occasionally but nothing like that obviously.

Is it something they can map in to be accentuated only while in Sport Mode (so its not ALWAYS occuring for when you wanna go unnoticed or coast quietly at night etc)? Or is it something they code in that'll happen at ALL times?

You will have more popping and crackling on downshift after you install your TCU upgrade from us! Shipping tomorrow.
OH YEA?! I can't wait :D

My AMG in Sport+ mode (with AMG Dynamic Performance Exhaust) is THE FUNNEST thing to drive and listen to, and NEVER gets old IMO. Acceleration sounds simply *vicious* and it'll manually downshift every gear as you decelerate, overreving and backfiring (the proper term for the "pops & crackles"). I absolutely love it.

"The powerful sound of an AMG model is one of its many sensory delights. From its startup growl to its assertive rumble when you open the throttle, the AMG GLE63 S exhaust system's free-flow design delivers an audible celebration of power with every upshift, downshift and rev. Computer-controlled vanes near the tailpipes further enrich the soundtrack in the Sport and Sport+ modes of DYNAMIC SELECT."

When I drive the R8 in Sport mode, it will manually downshift and overrev slightly (noticeable), and there will be a slight backfire. But it's nowhere near as aggressive or loud. I am still on the OEM GT exhaust, however. Hopefully that's changing soon :)

Because you shouldn't have it with a proper tune. It should only be there if you're doing it on purpose. Otherwise, its due to ignition breakup (if occuring at high rpms while on the throttle) or due to poorly timed fuel map (if fuel is still being provided after you lift off the gas).

Those are INSANELY fast shifts. Geez.

Two questions:

1) Is there any downside to that? Ie, is it increased wear 'n tear on the trans (if the trans itself is made to shift slower)? Or was that just how Audi tuned it (poorly)?

2) I see you have a backup camera on your GT. Which one did you go with, being that they were deleted from the GTs from the factory?

There's no downside at all. The gear changes just bangs into place and the throttle is back on instantly. In traffic full Auto, the gear changes seamlessly without any jerks etc. Before when I had the OBD-2 TCU race tune, slow speed full auto changes were still SLOW and clunky in comparison to say the least. I would say that in Sports mode, the shifts are at least 3 times faster than what I had before and has transformed the car.

I retro fitted the OEM reversing camera apart from the main wiring loom from Kufatec because Audi won't sell you it.
I have also retro fitted the footwell LED's ( the Led's and holders are in place but with no loom) which is a nice touch.

Thanks.

I see what I can do regarding a video. The gear shifts are lightning quick... very much like the S-Tronic but with the aggressiveness of the R-Tronic. It's really hard to put it in to words but I just love how it drives now.

Yes the TCU was removed and flashed but the car was initially ran on the dyno to gather my gear shifts timing logs etc ( I'm not 100% sure what they did) then after being flashed, the car ran on the dyno again to check shift speed etc. The video above was the first dyno run after the flash and implement of the crackle & pops. I'm going back there this week end to see if they can tweak it to make the pops duration shorter lol :)
