You will get a more aggressive blip on downshift with the TCU remap.

"Backfiring" is normally achieved by cutting ignition. You would need to ECU remap.
Or...as we did in the RX7 community, map for a 1-2 second delay in fuel cut when you lift off the throttle, so you'd get unburned fuel dumped into the exhaust, which would ignite in the exhaust, and result in a nice, loud backfire. And if you had a fully open exhaust (downpipe, midpipe with cat delete, and freeflow exhaust), you'd probably throw a nice 2-5 second flame out the exhaust too :D

Thanks! Any suggestions on which manifolds work best?
OEM R8 LMS Headers are the high flow headers to go with. Bolt on, high quality high flow 200 cell cats, lighter than OEM, and flow better by piping design as well. The downside? A) Cost, and B) If you have a V10, you gotta drop the motor to install them (can't be done with motor in). Osman can get one for you, if you're interested.

Is the Remap done by dealer?
Negative. I don't know any dealer that will remap for performance gains. Would have to be an aftermarket ECU retune.

I had mine mapped by MRC Tuning in the UK. It is ferocious on the road with the cracks and bangs lasting 2-3 seconds after down shifts or back off from the throttle. They will now try to tweak the map to shorten it so that it doesn't sound like a war zone lol :)

Bang on mate.....its what I do on the Syvecs to get pops and crackles.....

If the cats weren't in place, you would see impressive flames! lol

MRC are the only ones I have seen do this on stock ecu......

Cheers Ricky

Did your ECU have to come out for that? It sounds amazingly good!

Ricky, I'd assume that if I have this done with the LMS headers in place (200 cell cats), I'd destroy the cats pretty quickly, wouldn't I? (Not that I'd mind haha) And possibly end up seeing flames? :D

There you go :) I would say that the bangs are at least 3 times louder than that from the video :)
Not bad at all. I dunno how to best describe it, but the AMG version of this is more of a single loud backfire, vs the exhaust sound yours makes, which sounds more like ignition breakup typically sounds.

I just ordered a GoPro car suction mount kit. Gimme a few days, and I'll snap a video of this thing in action. It is ABSURD lol.

The ECU stayed in place for the crackle & pop flash which took 10 mins. I was there to re-map my TCU after they contacted me that they can do it properly. At the same time, they tweaked the ECU map to gain more ignition advance hence more power. Happy days :)
I wish they could remote map my car...

It's funny decel popping on Harley's when I owned one was sign of a ****ty tune. On cars people want it.
Because you shouldn't have it with a proper tune. It should only be there if you're doing it on purpose. Otherwise, its due to ignition breakup (if occuring at high rpms while on the throttle) or due to poorly timed fuel map (if fuel is still being provided after you lift off the gas).

It's not for me either. My Viper with the Borla exhaust used to pop and crackle really loudly at decel. A little cracle would be OK, but it used to pop really loudly. I wasn't a big fan. To each his own.
