R8 to RS7?

Anyone made this switch and are happy about it? I've been sitting on this fence lately as I've driven the R8 maybe 15 times this year. I know not much will match the gated bliss of the V10 R8 but with my Daughter (who is 2) and the amount of work on my business, I am noticing I am having less and less time to drive it. I know I will not likely find another R8 like mine as I searched for awhile for it. (low miles, 1 owner, white on carbon sills etc).

I daily a Prestige A6 3.0t which is an awesome car, but lets not kid ourselves it's no RS7.

I was also thinking the RS7 may be too harsh for the amount I drive (20,000 miles) a year so I was also looking into an S7.

I would sell both cars and just have the one which would also free up some funds to help grow my business. I am seeing 14-15 RS7's in the mid to high 70s for clean examples. S7's are 55-60k for similar.

Also, the R8 will be stored for the next 5 months due to our horrendous winters we deal with up here in NY.

Thoughts?

I traded in my 2011 V8 on a 15 RS7 (not the high output model) just over a year ago.

Drove it for two months and headed back to Audi to order a new V10. Drove off the lot with a V10+

The RS7 is a wonderful machine. It's amazingly quick, it's smooth, it's luxurious and it is BORING.

It's BIG, it's HEAVY and it didn't put a smile on my face when I drove it at all. My wife, on the other hand, LOVES the RS7.

For 8 years and three R8s, ever time I stepped into one, I would get a smile on my face. That smile didn't happen with the RS7.

I do wish that the R8 had the adaptive cruise control that the RS7 has.

So now we have both an RS7 and a V10+ in our garage - the RS7 is a great grocery getter, people transporter, every day car but it's no replacement for an R8.

Totally agree. I had the RS7 and R8V10. The RS7 was in the garage 95%of the time. Finally got rid of it. Haven’t missed it cause now I’m DD the R8. Don’t get me wrong the RS7 is a great car. Just not as exciting to drive as the R8

I've never made the switch but my friend's got a new S7 and it is amazing. There's no other car in that class I'd rather have. It just depends what you want, but it sounds like given your situation right now, the RS7 is the best bet.

If your daughter is only 2 why not something more exciting with rear seats? Maybe 991 turbo or the new GT-R ? [emoji4] maybe RS6?
I drove the new RS5 and loved the luxury quality interior and design, it’s fast but so boring to drive once you compare to the R8 V10 [emoji4]

I'm your friendly GT-R owner on the forum and will always praise this vehicle for daily usage. It's got way more torque than any V10+ model (especially with some gentle boost added from factory). It's more practical with a large trunk for it's class and usable back seats (just not for long trips or those over 6 feet tall).

Traded a RS6 for my R8, so went the other way to you, no more taxi driving kids, family or friends, pure selfishness and I love it!

Ya the R8 feels sportier and special, I’m 6.3 (192cms) so I like the feeling of setting very low and the GT-R you seat quite high more like a normal car. Actually I would like to seat even lower in the R8

I've taken the ('16) GTR and 2nd gen R8 plus on the same mountain roads and the R8 is more fun to drive. It has better brakes stock, is 300 lbs lighter, feels way more nimble and while the GTR does grip very well and feels planted, the R8 is more engaging and enjoyable. The tire comparison between R8 and GTR : P4S and R888-R, respectively. If the track/canyon has long sweeping turns, the GTR would probably match the "enjoyment" factor.

Don't do it.

I have a 650xi GC, comparable to the S7, and it's an amazing car. For $113k, I got a fairly loaded model - spared literally one option, I believe. It's fast and powerful (albeit not R8-fast), but as others have commented... it is what it is, which is a big, heavy GT car. The long hood and sloping roof line are drool worthy to look-at in my opinion, but they make the car as long as a 7-series. It's also about 4300lbs. So, adaptive drive, dynamic dampers, active roll stabilization... all be ****ed, it's a HEAVY car and it'll show in the corners.

These four door coupes occupy an interesting market segment. They're sportier than a sports sedan but not yet as sporty as a coupe... and certainly not as sporty as a sports car... and CERTAINLY not as sporty as an exotic sports car. So, it's impossible to compare one to the likes of an R8.

As great handling as the 650 is compared to the average vehicle on the road, it pales in comparison to the handling abilities of the R8. The R8 drives like its a flat board on rails... and the 650, even in its most aggressive modes, couldn't handle half as well. You feel the weight shifting side to side and front to back. No, it's not a sports car... and not an exotic. But what it DOES do is get you from point A to B in a LOT of luxury, style, and speed. These 4-door coupes seem to model the likeness of a private jet - going after all of the same values - but not something you'd ever confuse for a fighter jet.

So, I'd stick with my original recommendation of "don't do it"... with ONE major exception...

Your business. I'm all for having fun and admire the heck out of the R8. But I would never prioritize a car over my livelihood. So, if selling the car helps progress your business and benefits your future self, family, kids, etc - then that would probably be my first consideration.

I own both a V10 R8 and an RS7. I bought the RS7 to replace the S5 I owned because my wife and I had our first child. I now drive the RS7 more than the R8 because of carting my son around, but I enjoy the car. Sure it is not as nimble as the R8, but the power/torque on this car is always a blast for me (once my son is not in the car). I purchased an RS7 with the Dynamic package which includes the DRC suspension instead of air and I feel like it helps make the car handle a bit better during aggressive driving. I also purchased the RS7 in matte grey and I get more attention in that than the R8... go figure
