Anyone have any knowledge of this brand of exhaust - sounds incredible !!
As soon as you get the Secret Weapon sound, I'll be your first buying client! Come on, cheer up!I'm tempted to buy one and modify it here in the UK to get the valve closed exhaust gases to divert through a highly restrictive HJS racing cat. Should make it mega quiet but also pass emissions either at the roadside or annual emissions check thatg we need here without affecting the valve open sound.
Only issues are a) space, b) if running open, the cats won't be warm enough when they need to be!
modifying an $18k exhaust just sounds wrong......even though it will sound right.I'm tempted to buy one and modify it here in the UK to get the valve closed exhaust gases to divert through a highly restrictive HJS racing cat. do I sound down?As soon as you get the Secret Weapon sound, I'll be your first buying client! Come on, cheer up!
I totally agree, but I can’t have an exhaust that fails emissions legislation, so if I want this awesome sound, what choice do I have?modifying an $18k exhaust just sounds wrong......even though it will sound right.
Haven't seen any other R8's with the iPE and sounding more F1 than the Valvetronics there's no justification to pay 12k more. Plus iPE has been around for 26 years. At that price point you won't see many sales and if isn't selling there's a good chance the company won't be around for the long haul. Too risky of an investment for an unproven commodity. If anything I'd just add long tube headers at 2/3rds the cost. Would be a waste though when mine sounds different than any other car I've heard. R8 or whateverLots of people say they sound the same but two issues.
1. it’s impossible to get this sound without changing the headers.
2. exhaust pulses are made up of multiple sound wave harmonics. You may be able to get another exhaust to produce the same frequencies as part of the sound signature but for it to actually sound the same, you need for the high frequencies harmonic to be the dominant frequency and for the much lower conventional R8 V10 sound to be either eliminated or damped out as much as possible. This isn’t something that someone making an exhaust can just do, it would take tens of iterations specifically with this goal in mind to achieve - IE it’s not happening by accident.
What year and exhaust are you currently using? 2022 there aren't many plug and plays. I paid under 5k for mine. I couldn't find one facelift iPE video only Huracan when purchased. So I know in the states it's unique and rearI totally agree with you on the price, that’s why I haven’t bought one yet. It definitely sounds the best and is what I’m looking for but definitely not £15,000 better than stock.
as for the company, they aren’t new and this isn’t their only product, they aren’t going anywhere, so that isn’t a consideration for me.
bear in mind you are getting headers and exhaust, so at least twice as much material, r and d and hardware than what you are comparing to. On top of that it’s much more labour intensive to make headers than a cat back system.
I suppose there are people paying £8k for Akrapovic so they think it’s justifiable to double that for twice as much stuff.
I don't agree, but it's a matter of taste. For a third of the price iPE Inconel F1 Exhaust sounds the same if not better. She screams like a bitch all the way to 9000 rpm redline.
I agree here, it is a lot of risky money for something that is not proven, and the way to buy it is kind of strange, it is not a normal store like any other exhaust brand. There aren't even detailed photos of the product... Not to mention that you send them an email and they respond 4 months later.Haven't seen any other R8's with the iPE and sounding more F1 than the Valvetronics there's no justification to pay 12k more. Can you post a sound clip of your inco iPE? I have been thinking about switching up my exhaust (Capristo currently). What year and exhaust are you currently using? 2022 there aren't many plug and plays. I paid under 5k for mine. We don't use "chavy", I assume you mean lower class people? My crackling and popping is refined, not obnoxious like most I hear. It's not a continually sound, one or two when I hit 5000 rpm or when down shifting. Some Huracans are refined, I assume those are stock exhausts. Others are way too much, I'd be embarrassed.I actually don’t like cracking and popping - so many normal cars map it in that they have reclaimed it as chavvy (don’t know if Americans have the word “chav”).
Am new to the R8 so am interested to know what the pedal box is/does?
also what’s the benefit of silicon inlet pipes? I don’t get the impression the inlet is very restrictive.
We finally get to see some nice close-up photos of Secret Weapon, otherwise it would look like it's a shell company. Is that exhaust going to be installed on a Gen 1 or Gen 2?We have a uk distributor I can buy from like any other exhaust. Just have to reserve one if the three batches coming this year.
