Build isn't rocket science. Bolt-on some turbos, build up the clutch and transmission, and get a reliable tuner. If you keep it under 1200HP you can keep the motor stock.

Friend of mine locally has a Huracan built by a local shop. Same drivetrain as Gen 2 R8. No "fancy big name" builder (like UGR, sheepy, etc.) and the car hauls ass. Custom build and for a fraction of the cost. Here it is smacking a Plaid from a roll...8:20 mark.

2nd'd on finding someone who knows what they're doing.
My car was built by Sean Ivey at Ivey Technologies. It went 8.90 @161 300whp ago and is rock solid. Stock motor. Upgraded clutch and 2nd gear. Diff/stubb axles. Custom Turbo Kit. Made 1360 on his dyno. Car is a magnificent beast.

Hey there R8 fam,
More directed at those who have dealt with or have a sheepey race r8. Looking at a new car or even doing a sheepey race build on my current 2020.. I get bored of cars quick but with everything being expensive it kind of turns me away from the new car aspect. My current car is a Base v10 2020 with 14k miles. I guess my few questions would be, is it worth it to sheepey race a non performance R8 with the shorter gear ratios? Is 14k miles a bit much to have TT kit thrown on? For those of you that have went sheepey, worth it? Makes you want to keep the car? How is the reliability ? I also worry about throwing 40k on the build just to have something break down the line and have to keep throwing money at it.
Thanks everyone!!
Hey jtarvestad,

thanks for your inquiry! Just wanted to clear up any FUD that is being spread by one particular user who has been on a slanderous tear the last few months on instagram/fb/and now this forum. With over 150+ R8/Huracan builds under our belt, we always strive to build a superior product and user experience. However, with the power, and complexities of modifying exotics, things can go wrong, but they are always addressed, and our customer's receive our full support in resolving these issues. Please feel free to reach out if you have any further questions that we can address to help you in deciding which shop will ultimately be best for you and your vehicle.

Are you guys close to figuring out how to piggy-back MoTeC to OEM ECU for us NYS residents who have the pain in the ass annual NYS emissions inspections? I have a DS1 tune in hand. But there's nothing safety wise like the MoTeC for our cars. Shops like UGR now only do MoTeC builds specifically for that purpose. And I watch Alex Soto on youtube tuning with his laptop and explaining how good the MoTeC is in detecting things like engine knock, and so many other things to "pre-diagnose" potential problems.

150 cars turbo’d. Seems like close to double digit % of them have burnt to the ground if these photos are accurate however the low res quality and being unable to determine if the cars are even turbo’d much less the brand of the turbo kit makes me highly suspicious of the credibility of these claims.

What’s the reason for these fires?

Are the auto insurance carriers covering these types of claims?

Good thing Sheepey clearly brands most of their parts! When they don't burn down, they blow coolant lines like this one! Not the end of the world thankfully for this car in particular, but shows you how shoddy their craftsmanship is.

Sorry for not the best quality. Many of these are screencaps from videos taken with phone cameras.

Where is the coolant? I see white powder in the engine bay like from a fire extinguisher…?

Per the owner, it's a very thick layer of dried coolant. No clear fire damage in the engine bay from that pic.

Line blew while sitting in traffic, completely drenched the entire engine bay.

More loving testimonials from owners:

Just going to leave this here so we're clear on what kind of person Alex Soto is

ELSA SOTO vs. ALEXANDER SOTO

This should be fun...I truly feel for the people with these builds but stories like these are what stopped me from TT this car and why I keep most of my cars light bolt-ons and nothing more. I've been there, done that, with pushing a mod build on previous platforms back in the day. As I've gotten older I opted for more cars rather than money pit a platform. I picked between big build my GT-R or keep it basic FBO E85 and buy an R8. Bought the R8. Thought about boosting it with twin snails but figured I'll just buy a Plaid. Slots between a Stage 1 and Stage 2 build in straight line and put my R8 to weekend toy now instead of weekday daily warrior. I now appreciate the car more and enjoy the balance of an NA exotic. Everything going boosted from factory so why ruin a future icon. Anyways that's my opinion.

Whether Sheepy is truly at fault or not the truth of the matter is practices like this do happen at shops. Bad seeds (bad shops) ruin it for everyone else.
