Strange "hopping" when I do a wheelspin

as title says, whenever I hit the throttle to get a little wheelspin my car starts hopping/bouncing ? Especially when wet. Is this normal??

(For the record this is not something I do often...)

ASR/ESP is turned off ofcourse... I think I have a little to much pressure in my tires as for the wear signs.. could this cause it? My Mag-Ride stocks are also in pretty good condition as much as I can tell. I've also just had the car in for a full condition check, and the mechanic said my R8 was the best maintained R8 he had seen? He couldn't find any thing wrong with it other than the A/C gas was a little low, and that I need a new battery soon.

Appreciate all help here

I cannot sufficiently articulate why it happens, but "wheel hop" is a common occurrence in the performance car world. Particularly for cars such as the R8, with its wide tire contact area and sticky tires.

Wheel hop occurs when the tires spin with enough torque to "jump" off the pavement for a second. You see it in high powered RWD and FWD cars. I've never experienced it in my R8 but have several times in my Dad's various Porsches...

Try letting a little air out of the rears, it will help some...

What tires and pressures are you running?

That's where the car likes the pressures so I'd next guess that it's the tires themselves.

Try going to 40 on the rears and see if that (should let them spin more easily) make the problem better or worse. Not sure exactly what it will tell us, but a change might clue us in.

In the rain today at wot 1st, I enjoyed a little hopping. Nothing like a p-car or anything, but it was present. To break the rear shafts like that I would imagine you need to do some crazy, abusive stuff.
