So my 19k mile 2011 v10 six speed is currently undergoing a transmission rebuild with a well known specialist and classic car restorer in Maryland. When he got the transmission apart he said it looked like "It looks like the shift linkages might have been adjusted incorrectly prior to them being replaced to where first gear was just slightly grinding to the gear shifter. I've seen this before." I was the one who had the shift linkages replaced to try and save the transmission. Never had them serviced. That means the previous owner had it improperly serviced and this wasn't caught on my ppi. All service was done at an authorized Audi dealer where the original owner (I'm number 2) bought the car. I've heard from several members that since the R8 is such a limited production car the Audi techs don't have nearly as much know how or experience on the cars vs something like an A4 that they see all the time. Once your car is out of warranty you are better off taking it to an exotic specialist that has seen everything on all different types of cars more rare and expensive than an R8. He did mention if it was any consolation to me that the shop that did replace my linkages did an excellent job. It wasn't any consolation. Old on the left, new on the right.

McCalls transmission works in Maryland. Ron McCall. I had the transmission pulled at a high end local mechanic here in Houston. They actually recommended him instead of them doing it. The husband of one of my employees works at the high end mechanic here in Houston and gave him a very high recommendation.
