Today I had the opportunity to drive both vehicles at a Dealership here in Washington.
2015 & 2017 Side By side
2015 Right Side
2017 Center Console
2017 Steering Wheel
2015 Had Dry Rotted Tires
I heard all the hoopla about the R8 V10 with the S-Tronic Transmission being all that and 2 bags of chips.
My experience was quite different.
The 2015 R8 V10 had issues.
1) When I pushed on the gas the car hesitated then picked up and accelerated from a stop.
2) When accelerating through the gears there were times when the transmission would lag (drop out) then pick up again.
3) When stopped, for no apparent reason, the transmission would go into Manual Mode?
The 2017 R8 V10, on the other hand, was really impressive.
1) Steering is easier (lighter and more responsive) to the touch.
2) Throttle kicked in the minute you pressed on the pedal.
3) Switching through the gears was unnoticeable (other than the speed) that is.
4) The Ceramic Brakes worked as one would expect - They bite hard and stop quick.
5) While I didn't spend a lot of time checking out the stereo, dash, etc...(too occupied with checking out the performance and handling) the interior and front display are quite a step up from the 2015.
6) Not sure what they were thinking with the cup holders under the arm rest
I was curious if others who own or have driven the 2014/2015 R8 V10's have had the same or similar experience with the S-Tronic Transmission.
I've heard all the horror stories about the R-Tronic but everyone raves about how good the S-Tronic is and that wasn't my experience on the 2015.
If I didn't know better I wouldn't have guessed they even had the same transmission.
Please provide your thoughts and experiences as I may have to rethink my R8 Purchase and start looking more at the 2017/2018 models.
Thanks Everyone in Advance for your thoughts.
