I need a radar detector with little false alarm, any one has suggestions for a good DIY installed one?

Thank you

R7, v1, redline360, couple with a blendmount and mirror tap

The current Valentine one G2 is the best money can buy, dramatic reduction in non threatening signals.
FWIW, the mirror taps are great, for the R8.....completely unnecessary, the std wiring works perfect by simply poping down the overhead light panel with a plastic trim tool or screwdriver.
ton of room up there....tease the cord out the front of the headliner,
you also, IMO, don’t want a blendmount, too low..too visable to thieves and cops, mine is on top of windshield right over right side of rear view mirror..... more stealthy without all the add ons.

I just had this done. Blendmount and R7. local shop charged me $90 to do the hardwire.
Do you know the model number of the blendmount used? Usually the detector sits flush with the bottom of the mirror. At lest with my GTR and RS7 it does. I have an off brand mount now and it fits the R7 tight to the bottom of the mirror, but boy is it ugly.

I have mirror tap on my V1 gen 2. I use the suction cups on the windshield, under the visor.

there are excellent radar forums, check out the YT guy Vortex awesome reviews. If you get a V1 make sure to get the iphone app to code and tweak it. works great.

Yeah...uh, I think we have a great supply of drivers already now going fast looking at their iPhones instead of out their windshield, paying attention.

The r7 can fit tight to the mirror, that one was not well adjusted.

There's no way to get a fool-proof system unless you want to drop $5k on a jamming system (which at that point, would take quite a few tickets to make it worth it). Cops use both radar and laser still. That being said, I've encountered more radar than laser (and I drive daily). Downside of laser from a cop perspective (from what I understand) is you need to manually point it at each vehicle since it shoots a beam. This can be tiresome and requires the cop to be pulled over. Radar casts a wider net and cops can run them in their cars (dash mounted front / back) and keep them switched on all the time and just wait. They can also travel with traffic and have them on, monitoring cars around them. This only works with radar. The detector will save you here.

Most detectors have a laser detector built in. I second the ValentineOne Gen 2. Have it and it's the best on the market. It's saved me countless times already so it's paid for itself. That + Waze and you should be fine for 90% of the time. I'd recommend getting a Valentine. $500 vs. a $500 ticket + insurance = worth it.

Cannot thank you enough, very informative, thank you.

V1 is really only good with accessory apps, R7/Redline360 is a better overall package also with arrows. The R7 also has the longest ranges currently. Another important feature is gps lockouts, and the ability to segment the bands you want the detector looking for. Check out vortex radar for all kinds of info.

Cops are still heavily reliant on k/ka radar bands, well worth running. Waze is still king, run them concurrently for the best coverage. Nothing is foolproof though....

Have zero idea what urban dystopia you live in but that there is, uh, BS.
V1...you need ZERO apps....none. Waze is useless against moving units, of which, around here there are plenty....including BEHIND you, and WAZE often, drives you nuts with incorrect dated info, and in most tests the R7 is essentially dead even long range.
I've had V1's for 30 years...now two V1 G2's. OVERALL, zero better units out there. Current software is just magnificent.

I disagree. You only need a millimeter or two, the blendmount lets you pull down on the detector to access top features. Besides, all the important buttons for the R7 are on on the side, once you set everything you’re not gonna be constantly adjusting volume or pressing pressing the power button on top.

^ Dude, you're on another planet. If you wish to argue results with Vortex Radar (arguably the most comprehensive radar detector database out there), by all means. BUT, according to VR, you are wrong. GPS is a very important feature these days on a detector for a multitude or reasons, including false lockouts, speedtraps, cameras, etc. If you don't want to run radar apps, a Redline 360 or R7 would be the better choice to capture full functionality in a detector.

Dude... anybody with a Mandolorian avatar using DUDE tells me everything I need to know.
Best of luck out there in Dudeworld.

And your Star Wars trivia is rusty, Boba Fett is NOT Mandalorian, he just donned his "father's" armor.

the custom installed radars that cost as much as 4000 USD is for people that like racing to pick up their babies to the day car and when getting milk from the market. Maybe overkill? 🤷‍♂️
One might say everything about our cars is an overkill 🙂
(Full disclosure, I do have a custom installed radar on my car…)

Vortex radar is the ****!
Have a redline 360c and a uniden r7 in my cars, save me on a daily basis from jail in NJ. Depending on where you live laser isn’t used as much. Something else to watch out for if you’re in states like VA is you want your detector to be “undetectable” the redline 360, 360ci and the r7 can’t be seen by cops. The regular max 360c can be seen and can generate trouble for you.
If you go escort can always add the wireless laser shifters another time.
Uniden r7 can now do auto lockout with the newest firmware.

edit: a word

Radenso has been talking about Theia for years, I'll believe it when I see it....

#41 ·
I mean, the hardware development isn't the tough part, it's just a Raspberry Pi running Linux. Maybe it's the ML functions it is performing to adapt to changing radar and laser bands? 🤷‍♂️

Other than the unique marketing behind the product, I'm not clear on how this is any different than say a Escort Max360c or V1 G2.

#42 ·
May have to do with all the chip manufacturing shortages, but Theia has been teased since 2019. It reminds me of APR's "2 weeks" promise

#43 ·
Oh - I didn't know it was announced that far back. Welp, I'll keep my checkbook in my pocket for now I guess.

#46 ·
^ Just grab an R7 for the time being, $480 on Amazon, then sell it if Theia ever comes out (almost 3 years now it's been teased)

Even the Uniden R3 (250$) is super good, just no arrows.
