US $205K for 2020 Performance Spyder is a good deal. I only see one Spyder for under that price in US (autotrader) which is a 3 owner car. I can’t even find 2020 performance coupe under $200K anymore.
I thought so too! The market in Canada (when you convert from CAD to USD) has always been cheaper for some reason. Even last year, when I was looking for a 2020 R8 V10 Performance Spyder and wasn't having any luck here in the Canadian market. I started looking at what was available in the US and while there were tons of cars to chose from, the price was significantly higher. For example, a used 2020 R8 V10 Performance Spyder here in Canada (if you could locate one) was about $210-$220k CAD. But the used 2020 R8 V10 Performance Spyder in the US were about $190-$195k USD. When you convert that $190-$195k USD to CAD it works out to between $240-$244k + I would have had to pay 6% duty + shipping. Spending $30-40k more buying a US model. It simply didn't make sense.

Though R8 didn’t see the same astronomical spike in price as GT3 (both used market and markups for new ones), I believe R8 did go through a very stable growth in the last 1 year. I bought my 2020 R8 Performance (fully loaded low mileage) a year ago for under $180K. You cant buy one now for under $205K (that’s around 15% appreciation for the same car which is a year older now).

The new 992 GT3 caused some instability. People who couldn’t pay the markup ended up going for 991.2 GT3 (991.2 GT3 is fairly modern and very close to 992 GT3). This caused spike in price for GT3 used market.

I think R8 needs to hit some unique event in order to see such used market spike. Either R8 getting discontinued or being replaced by something which is not NA V10.

If R8 and GT3 are stock prices, my recommendation is
HOLD or BUY for R8.
I agree with everything you said above! GT3 pricing is where it is because of what you stated and also, to add to that, it's a Porsche and people will pay just about anything for a special Porsche (aka GT and RS cars).

The R8 will have that unique event sooner than later, we all know the V10 is likely in its last year of production. Best case there will be 1 more run as a 23 model and I bet those will be even harder to get than the 2022s are.

I also agree that the R8 is a solid investment if you can buy it at MSRP or better yet, below MSRP. (Disclaimer: I don't actually think of it as investment but as far as cars go and this current market. Its pretty safe purchase in terms of depreciation in my opinion). Those of us that got these cars over the last year or more, with substantial discounts will likely never lose a dollar owning these cars. I anticipated $15k a year loss in depreciation over the 3-4 years I planned to own this car. I can confidentially say, I will be nowhere near that unless some sort of crazy world event happens that cripples just about everything, and at that point, the least of our worries will be depreciation.

This is what I've seen as well, while 2022 RWD Spyder has ranged from 225-239k CAD.
Yes but the Pfaff Reserve car is a 2020 V10 Performance AWD (not RWD). I personally would pay $255 for the 2020 AWD car over $225-$240 for a RWD car. The RWD car had an MSRP under $200k CAD. The AWD car was exactly $255k when new.

In early 2020 (pre-pandemic), I was looking to buy a second gen R8 V10 plus... there were numerous V10 plus' in the $120's with <20k miles. I had a deposit on one at Audi Ontario (California) for $128k. Dynamite red V10 Plus with 14k miles. Unfortunately, I lost my job due to Covid and had to back out of that deal.
Once I financially recovered in summer 2021, I was ready to start looking again. By then, a V10 plus under 20k miles is now in the $160's++. I looked for months, all the ones I wanted in the low 160's were selling. To this day, if you look for a clean title gen 2 V10 plus, they're $160k-200k+. I just did a quick nationwide search on AutoTrader.
So I'd say they also went up in price. A V10 plus with a MSRP around $200k selling for $165k 5 years later isn't terrible at all IMO.

Also worth noting, I was also looking at 570S's, they were in the low $130's pre-pandemic. They're currently selling for $160k++ and had a higher MSRP than the R8.
R8 prices have risen along with other exotics. In Nov 2020 I had a deposit on a 17 plus with 15k miles for $125k. Decided to wait until it depreciated further :)
I was looking at a couple 17 AWD for $110k.

I ended up with an 18 RWS for $120k, sold it 9 months later for $140k.

Post Covid, short of an economic catastrophe, well kept R8's depreciation will be little to zero.

Do you think you'll be able to pick up a gen 2 R8 with 20k miles on it under $100k 5 years from now? No way.

2022 R8 RWD coupe on Autotrader Canada, asking $250k CAD.

Crazy.

Crazy! Even though I believe the car market is going to stay hot for a very long time and even when we see a dip, it will be minimal in comparison to how much it went up. Whoever buys that car for $250k will lose a lot of money sooner than later.

Flipping like that has it's risks.

Having said that they'll probably get 235-240CAD which is still crazy considering I paid 194k MSRP in Oct for a brand new spyder RWD...

Yes, this person is going to make some serious coin, even if they sell at $235k. MSRP on a coupe like that is is probably $180-$185k I would guess

Wow this

It's a base RWD (they use performance trim on both RWD and AWD now). And the car has no carbon goodies inside and out. No sport exhaust. That is way overpriced.
Yup I know! You can’t order carbon interior or exterior on a RWD R8 here in Canada. Stupidest thing ever but that’s a fact
