violent downshifts in sports mode

2017 v10 plus--hex tune--when in sports mode--and I accelerate (punch the gas pedal)--the downshift into 2nd gear (from whatever gear I'm in before I accelerate) is jarring and violent. This happened BEFORE the tune and hasn't changed since. I thought I remember reading something about this in one of the auto magazine reviews in 2016 before I bought the gen 2 car, but I wanted to make sure this is a normal reposes for most people's cars??

Is there anything that can be done to prevent/resolve the issue? I don't seem to recall a TCU modification that I've heard is available (or necessary for that matter, for the gen 2) bc the transmission is otherwise spot on.

But the sudden acceleration from cruising speed to hammering the gas causes a downshift (into whatever gear the transmission feels is necessary--usually 2nd gear) in a very unrefined and uncomfortable way--startling almost.

Any insight would be appreciated.

Thanks.

My Gen1 V10 S-Tronic does the same. The Gen2 V10 Plus I drove in Singapore shifted very similar as well.

I'm not sure if the Gen2 S-Tronic gearbox is all new or slightly modified from the Gen1, but they both appear to have these abrupt downshifts.

I have owned dual clutch transmission cars from other marques and they downshift smoother at WOT.

Whoever said the R8 S-Tronic is too smooth and lacks character has not driven one extensively in Sport mode. The lightning speed rev matched downshifts are a thing of beauty!

Yes, same here. It caught me by surprise at first as I was used to the manual V8. It's very noticeable in comfort D mode where I could be tailing a car at 35mph in 7th gear with little engine / exhaust noise, then when you plant it, it kicks down to 2nd, bunch of revs, exhaust valves open. I feel like I've embarrassed myself a few times on overtakes. I have learned to modulate the throttle a bit better now that I know how the car behaves. And like others, I enjoy the manual mode.

What do you mean by Sport mode?

When I drive my car in ANY of the "standard" (non-Performance) driving modes, even in Dynamic and with gearbox switched to "S" mode, upshifts and downshifts are pretty smoothly.

ONLY in Performance mode DRY, the gear changes are extremely aggressive and violent (I actually love it but in Performance mode DRY, my car uses around 3-4 liters more fuel than in Dynamic mode, no kidding).

Mine also does it. I have learned that if I passing some one I will go about half throttle first. Then when it down shifts a few gears I will continue to push the throttle. At 3/4 throttle it will drop another gear or so, then I will floor it and get the last down shift. They are still crisp down shifts, but not the violent down shift like 7 to 2. It sounds complicated and long, but it happens all in side of 3-5 seconds. If I'm behind someone about a car or so length back, by the time I'm at their rear quarter I'm in 2nd gear at full throttle. And no violent down shift.

I test drove one before buying the R8 they do shift harder in general. Different transmission logic.
